Hole Board Device

The Ugo Basile Hole Board Device (Cat. 6650 for mice, Cat. 46653 for rats) is a validated apparatus for assessing natural exploratory behavior and the effect of psychotropic drugs using the Boissier-Simon head-plunging (nose-poke) methodology. Featuring 16 holes in a durable grey Perspex board with opaque or transparent wall configurations, it offers a minimal-training, rapid behavioral assessment of anxiolytic and anxiogenic drug effects in rodents.

RotaRod Enlargers

Ugo Basile RotaRod Enlargers are magnetic-attachment rubber accessories that increase the drum diameter or change the surface texture of any RotaRod in the 47650/47750 family. Complex Wheel for RotaRod

The Ugo Basile Complex Wheel is a high-sensitivity accessory for the RotaRod family that replaces the standard rod with an irregular-bar wheel, significantly increasing task difficulty and engaging motor cortex and hippocampus beyond conventional rotarod protocols. Validated in sleep-dependent motor learning research by Nagai et al. (2017), it enables detection of subtle motor skill deficits and recovery trajectories that are beyond the resolution of standard RotaRod testing.

The Thermal Gradient Ring (TGR) 2.0 is the state-of-the-art circular thermal preference assay for mice, fully automatic with support from over 36 scientific publications. It clearly discriminates temperature-dependent phenotypes and drug effects across 12 temperature zones.

Climbing Test

The Climbing Test measures vertical activity in rodents as an objective indicator of pain-depressed behavior. Developed with Prof. Sidney Negus at VCU, this automated system uses capacitive height sensors to capture vertical movement in a cylindrical mesh cage.

The Incapacitance Tester Librae measures weight distribution between injured and unaffected hind paws in mice and rats. Its automated, touch-screen-controlled operation reduces bias for objective spontaneous pain assessment in osteoarthritis, cancer pain, and nerve injury models.
