Neurostar Glass Capillary Nanoinjector
Computer-controlled glass-capillary nanoinjector (NanoW) for ultraprecise nanoliter injections in oocyte, embryo, and brain workflows. Direct piston displacement delivers exact volumes from 1 nL with rates from 2 nL/s. Borosilicate capillaries pulled to ultrathin tips minimize tissue trauma. Standalone, mount on a micromanipulator, or integrate with the Neurostar Robot Stereotaxic for a fully automated multisite nanoinjection robot.

What is the Neurostar Glass Capillary Nanoinjector?
The Neurostar NanoW is a computer-controlled glass-capillary nanoinjector designed for ultraprecise nanoliter-volume injections in both in-vitro and in-vivo workflows. It uses borosilicate glass capillaries that can be pulled to extremely fine tips — minimizing tissue damage on insertion and enabling clean delivery of viral vectors, oocyte/embryo injection material, and dye tracers at single-cell resolution.
The injector can be operated standalone for oocyte or embryo work, or mounted on a micromanipulator or attached to a Neurostar Robot Stereotaxic frame. When paired with the Robot Stereotaxic, NanoW inherits the full automated stereotaxic feature set — atlas integration, alignment correction, multisite protocols — turning the combination into a true nanoinjection robot.
Key Features

Why glass-capillary nanoinjection matters
Steel-needle microinjection has been the laboratory standard for decades, but for many modern protocols it is no longer appropriate — the needle outer diameter is simply too large for single-cell delivery, fragile target tissue (zebrafish embryo, mouse cortex layers), and low-dose virus titrations. Pulled glass capillaries can reach tip ODs an order of magnitude smaller than the finest steel needle, with proportional reduction in mechanical trauma and backflow.
The NanoW combines that capillary geometry with positive-displacement piston control — the volume delivered is exactly the piston displacement, not a pressure pulse that depends on solution viscosity. The result: 1 nL volumes are actually 1 nL. Paired with the Neurostar Robot Stereotaxic, the platform delivers reproducible, atlas-aligned, single-cell-scale injection at experiment level.
Typical Use Cases
- Oocyte and embryo injection (zebrafish, mouse, Xenopus).
- Single-cell viral vector delivery in cortical and subcortical structures.
- Multi-site stereotaxic nanoinjection paired with the Robot Stereotaxic.
- Low-titre AAV / DNA / RNA microinjection.
- Tracer / dye delivery for circuit mapping at single-cell resolution.
