Artinis Brite
Wearable fNIRS from any cortical region. A 300 gram control unit on the headcap, up to 27 channels from a configurable optode template, and inter optode distances from 10 to 55 mm so short separation channels sit on the same cap. Built for participants who will not sit still.

What is the Brite?
Wearable fNIRS. The control unit weighs 300 grams and clips to the headcap, so there is no backpack and no cable running to a trolley. It records oxy, deoxy and total haemoglobin concentration changes from any cortical region, up to 27 channels from a configurable optode template.
The inter optode distance adjusts from 10 to 55 mm. That is the part that decides what you can do with the Brite. Short distances sample the superficial layer, long distances reach deeper cortex, and short separation channels sit on the same headcap without a second system. An SSC splitter adds up to 8 more without taking many standard channels away.
Where the Brite is strongest is the participant who will not sit still. Children, patients, athletes mid movement, and any protocol where the same person comes back three times. Multi power gain control gives four output levels plus an automatic setting. Artinis put that there because dark thick hair and darker skin cost you signal, which is the weak point of the whole technique and not of this system in particular.
Where we would not put it. If the paper you want to write has a reconstructed image in it, 27 channels will not get you there. That is NIRSport2 territory and we sell that too, so say what you are running and we will point you at the right one.

How many channels does the Brite give me, and is that enough?
Up to 27, from a configurable optode template. That covers one cortical region with a proper montage, whether motor, temporal or prefrontal. If you need whole head coverage or a reconstructed image, 27 channels will not get you there and we would quote you a NIRSport2 instead.
Does the Brite support short separation channels?
Yes. The inter optode distance adjusts from 10 to 55 mm, so short and long channels sit on the same headcap, and an SSC splitter adds up to 8 more without taking many standard channels away. If you are publishing task activation, you want them.
Will it work on thick dark hair?
Better than it used to, and not perfectly. Multi power gain control gives four output levels plus an automatic setting, aimed at different hair types and skin tones, and spring optode holders help on temporal, parietal and motor sites. Frontal montages avoid the problem entirely. Ask us about optode design before you assume a whole head montage will work on your subject population.
Can I record more than one participant, or add EEG?
Both. MultiBrite Dual and Tetra configurations extend coverage or run hyperscanning, and Brite Connect handles up to four devices. For larger groups there is Brite Connect Ultra, up to 30 devices on one screen. EEG and tES go in the same headcap as the fNIRS optodes.
Is the Brite available in Israel with local support?
Yes. NBT is the Israeli distributor for Artinis. We install, train and support here, Sunday to Thursday, on site when needed. We also distribute NIRx, so if the NIRSport2 is the better fit for your paradigm we will say so.
