Video-Tracking Software (ANY-maze)
ANY-maze behavioral video-tracking and analysis software for all Ugo Basile maze apparatuses. Tracks full animal body, head, and tail; no predefined apparatus parameters; handles live feeds and pre-recorded video; 30+ built-in statistical tests; multi-group experiment management; free trial available.

What is ANY-maze Video Tracking Software?
ANY-maze is a comprehensive video-based behavioral tracking and analysis platform designed by Stoelting Co. and supplied by Ugo Basile for use with their complete range of maze and behavioral apparatus. Unlike rigid, apparatus-specific software, ANY-maze provides a fully flexible zone-definition interface — researchers draw their own tracking regions directly on a live or recorded video frame, defining open arms, closed arms, center zones, escape holes, and any other behaviorally relevant areas without preset limitations. This flexibility means a single software license supports all maze types simultaneously, from Elevated Plus and Water Mazes to Open Fields, Radial Mazes, and Fear Conditioning chambers.
Key Features
- Full Animal Body Tracking: ANY-maze tracks not just the animal's center point, but simultaneously resolves the head point, body center, and tail base — enabling nose-point proximity scoring, rearing detection, directed head movements, and posture analysis beyond simple path tracking.
- No Predefined Apparatus Limits: All zone definitions, trigger areas, and analysis regions are drawn directly on the video by the researcher. Any maze shape, any number of zones, any spatial arrangement is supported without requiring apparatus-specific software modules (except specific specialist modules like FST wheel integration).
- Live and Pre-Recorded Video: ANY-maze processes both live camera feeds (during experiments) and previously recorded video files, enabling retrospective analysis of archived behavioral data with the same accuracy as real-time scoring.
- Multi-Group Experiment Management: Session templates, treatment group assignments, and counterbalancing schedules are managed within the software, allowing complete experimental designs with multiple treatment groups and repeated-measures designs to be organized in a single project file.
- 30+ Built-in Statistical Tests: Output data are automatically subjected to built-in statistical analyses including t-tests, ANOVA, correlation, and non-parametric equivalents, enabling immediate in-software inference without exporting to separate statistics packages.

Explore All ProductsWhat apparatus types does ANY-maze support?
ANY-maze supports any behavioral apparatus with a camera — because zones are drawn by the researcher rather than preset, it works with Elevated Plus and Zero Mazes, Open Fields, Y/T/Radial Mazes, Barnes and Morris Water Mazes, Fear Conditioning chambers, Social Interaction boxes, Forced Swim Test cylinders, and any custom apparatus. The only apparatus requiring a specific add-on module is the Nomura FST (Cat. 60000-FST) for rotation encoder integration.
What is the catalog number for ANY-maze?
The base ANY-maze license is Cat. 60000. The FST-specific module that integrates with the Nomura FST rotation encoder (Cat. 40803) is Cat. 60000-FST. Contact NBT for current pricing and multi-seat license options.
Can ANY-maze analyze pre-recorded video files?
Yes — ANY-maze processes both live camera feeds and pre-recorded video files in AVI, MP4, WMV, and most common formats. This allows retrospective analysis of archived behavioral data, reanalysis with different zone definitions, and processing of video collected on other systems.
Does ANY-maze track the whole animal body or just the center point?
ANY-maze simultaneously tracks head point, body center, and tail base in rodents. This enables nose-point-based proximity scoring (for social investigation and object exploration), tail elevation for some ethological measures, and directionality calculations (e.g., head-dipping direction in EPM) that single-point trackers cannot resolve.
Is a free trial available?
Yes — a free trial version of ANY-maze is available from Stoelting Co./Ugo Basile. Contact NBT for access to the trial license. The trial version includes full tracking functionality with limitations on data export, allowing researchers to validate compatibility with their camera setup and maze apparatus before purchase.
