Stereotaxic Ear Bars

RWD Stereotaxic Ear Bars are precision-machined fixation rods compatible with all RWD stereotaxic frames, available in 10 models covering mice, rats, guinea pigs, birds, cats, and monkeys. The range includes standard angled, hollow, non-rupture cuff, non-rupture rubber, height-adjustable, and riser designs to match any species anatomy and surgical approach.

Stereotaxic Ear Bars

What are the RWD Stereotaxic Ear Bars?

RWD Stereotaxic Ear Bars are precision-machined fixation rods designed to immobilize the animal head within a stereotaxic frame by insertion into the external ear canals. With a standard scale of 35 mm and 1 mm resolution, these ear bars are compatible with all RWD stereotaxic instruments and are available in a comprehensive range of geometries to match the anatomy of different species — from neonatal mice to cats and monkeys — and different surgical approaches.

The range includes standard angled ear bars for rats and mice, hollow ear bars for EEG or nerve recording through the ear canal, non-rupture cuff and rubber designs for delicate small animals, height-adjustable versions for angled approaches, and riser bars for elevated positioning. All ear bars feature a square 6.15 mm shank for universal compatibility with RWD and most third-party stereotaxic arm holders.

Key Features

  • Wide Species Range: Dedicated models for mice, neonatal mice, rats, guinea pigs, birds, cats, and squirrel monkeys ensure optimal fit and fixation for each animal.
  • Multiple Tip Geometries: 18° and 45° angled tips in standard (0.8 mm radius), hollow (1.0 mm/3.0 mm aperture), non-rupture cuff, and rubber variants accommodate different anatomical requirements and atraumatic fixation needs.
  • Non-Rupture Designs (68307/68308): Cuff and rubber tip models eliminate tympanic membrane damage during fixation, suitable for delicate mice and neonatal rats where standard tips would cause injury.
  • Height-Adjustable Model (68314): Mouse ear bars with a tooth tip range of −55 mm to +5 mm allow precise vertical adjustment to align with varied head positions and angled surgical approaches.
  • Riser Bars (68413): Provide 50 mm of additional height with a 55 mm scale (1 mm accuracy) to elevate the animal for improved surgical access.
  • Universal Shank: Square 6.15 mm shank is compatible with all RWD stereotaxic frames and most third-party holders.
