RoVent® Jr. Automatic Small Animal Ventilator

Automatic small animal ventilator for mice, rats and guinea pigs from 3 g to 1,250 g. Enter the animal weight and press run - the RoVent Jr. calculates respiratory rate and tidal volume, and ventilates by volume or by pressure. Touchscreen display shows numbers, waveforms, or both. Requires an intubated or tracheotomised animal, so plan an intubation kit into the same setup.

RoVent® Jr. Automatic Small Animal Ventilator

What is the RoVent Jr.?

An automatic small animal ventilator for mice, rats and guinea pigs from 3 g to 1,250 g. Enter the animal weight and press run. The RoVent Jr. calculates the respiratory rate and the tidal volume from that weight, and ventilates by either volume or pressure.

The RoVent Jr. needs an intubated or tracheotomised animal. It will not ventilate through a nose cone. An intubation kit is part of this setup, not an accessory to add later.

Kent's worked example for a 30 g mouse is 133 bpm, 0.200 mL tidal volume, 26 mL/min minute volume. In pressure priority the default target pressure is 15 cmH2O, and that figure does NOT scale with body weight.

RoVent Jr. or the full RoVent?

The Jr. gives you volume control, pressure control, automatic set-up from body weight, measured tidal volume, parameter alarms and a touchscreen you can configure to show numbers, waveforms, or both.

The full RoVent adds PEEP, sigh breath, assist mode, pulse ventilation mode, I:E ratio, user profiles and data output.

If your protocol calls for PEEP, or the work is open chest where alveolar collapse is a real problem, buy the RoVent and not the Jr. If it does not, the Jr. does the same core job for less money. Which one does your protocol specify?

What is the RoVent® Jr. and what is it used for?

An automatic ventilator for mice, rats and guinea pigs from 3 g to 1,250 g. Enter the animal weight, press run, and the RoVent Jr. calculates the respiratory rate and tidal volume from that weight. Ventilation runs by volume or by pressure.

Can the RoVent Jr. ventilate through a nose cone?

No. The RoVent Jr. will not ventilate through a nose cone. The animal has to be intubated or tracheotomised, so an endotracheal intubation kit belongs in the same order, not in a later one.

RoVent Jr. or the full RoVent - which should I buy?

The Jr. covers volume control, pressure control, automatic set-up from body weight, measured tidal volume, parameter alarms and a configurable touchscreen. The full RoVent adds PEEP, sigh breath, assist mode, pulse ventilation mode, I:E ratio, user profiles and data output. If your protocol calls for PEEP, or the work is open chest, buy the RoVent. If it does not, the Jr. does the same core job for less.

What settings does it use for a mouse?

Kent's worked example for a 30 g mouse is 133 bpm, 0.200 mL tidal volume and 26 mL/min minute volume, which is roughly 6.7 mL/kg. Many published mouse protocols use 8 mL/kg to 10 mL/kg, so check what your protocol specifies before the first experiment. In pressure priority the default target pressure is 15 cmH2O and it does not scale with body weight.

Is the RoVent Jr. available in Israel with local support?

Yes. NBT Ltd is the distributor of Kent Scientific in Israel. We scope the setup against your protocol, deliver, install and train locally. The SomnoFlo, Intubation Kit and RoVent Jr. Integration Guide in the Downloads section covers the gas path, the two charcoal canisters this setup needs, and the settings the ventilator does not calculate for you.
