Endotracheal Intubation Kits

Purpose-built rodent intubation kit from Kent Scientific. Integrated anesthesia mask keeps the animal on isoflurane throughout the attempt, fiber-optic illumination lights the glottis directly through the endotracheal tube, and a dedicated neck support holds the airway in alignment. Available in mouse (ETI-MSE) and rat (ETI-MSR) configurations — use standalone or dock into the SurgiSuite surgical platform.

Endotracheal Intubation Kits

What is the Endotracheal Intubation Kit?

Kent Scientific’s Endotracheal Intubation Kits give researchers a complete, purpose-built setup for intubating mice and rats — one of the trickiest manual skills in rodent surgery. Each kit ships with an integrated anesthesia mask so isoflurane can be delivered continuously throughout the intubation attempt, plus a fiber-optic light to illuminate the glottis through small endotracheal tubes that slide directly over the light cable.

The kit ships in mouse (ETI-MSE) and rat (ETI-MSR) configurations, and can be used standalone or docked into Kent’s SurgiSuite multi-function surgical platform. The result is a self-contained intubation station that solves the two biggest pain points of rodent intubation: keeping the animal anesthetized while you visualize the airway, and visualizing the airway in the first place.

Key Features

  • Integrated anesthesia mask: Deliver isoflurane during intubation — the animal stays anesthetized while you visualize and intubate.
  • Fiber-optic glottis illumination: Small endotracheal tubes fit over the light cable for direct illumination of the airway opening.
  • Mouse or rat variants: ETI-MSE for mice, ETI-MSR for rats — same workflow, species-appropriate components.
  • SurgiSuite compatible: Use standalone or dock into Kent SurgiSuite for a unified anesthesia + surgical platform.
  • Neck support: Dedicated neck support positions the animal correctly for first-time-right intubation.
  • Reduces learning curve: Designed by intubation specialists to make a notoriously difficult skill teachable and reproducible.

Why a purpose-built intubation kit matters

Endotracheal intubation in mice and rats is a notoriously difficult skill. The animal is small, the glottis is hard to visualize, and the standard failure mode is loss of anesthesia depth during the attempt — the animal partially recovers, jaw tone returns, and visualization becomes impossible. Researchers without a dedicated intubation kit typically resort to ad-hoc setups that compromise on at least one of these constraints: continuous anesthesia delivery, airway illumination, or correct neck positioning.

Kent’s kit solves all three simultaneously. The integrated isoflurane mask keeps the animal anesthetized throughout the attempt; the fiber-optic light makes the glottis visible without external lighting; the neck support guarantees the airway is aligned with the tube. Combined, these turn a high-skill, high-failure procedure into something a trained technician can reliably perform on the first or second attempt.

Typical Use Cases

  • Survival surgery in mice and rats requiring mechanical ventilation (paired with RoVent® or similar).
  • Pulmonary and cardiopulmonary research where airway control is essential.
  • Long-duration procedures where mask-only anesthesia is impractical.
  • Imaging or stereotaxic surgery where head position precludes a face mask.
  • Teaching and training programs building rodent intubation skills.

Peer-reviewed research using Kent Scientific endotracheal intubation kits in mouse and rat

Endotracheal intubation is the gold-standard airway management technique for long-duration rodent anesthesia and mechanical ventilation. Studies citing Kent’s ETI kits typically describe pulmonary, cardiopulmonary, and survival-surgery workflows where continuous isoflurane during intubation and fiber-optic glottis visualization were essential.
