PZMV Stereo Zoom Microscope

WPI's newest-generation stereo zoom microscope for stereotaxic surgery, microinjection, and microsurgery. The PZMV pairs a 45° articulated stereo head and 100–110 mm working distance with a four-quadrant LED ring light, available in binocular or trinocular (camera-ready) configurations.

PZMV Stereo Zoom Microscope

What is the PZMV Stereo Zoom Microscope?

The PZMV is World Precision Instruments' newest generation of PZM stereo zoom microscopes, purpose-built for life-science work that demands long working distance, ergonomic positioning over a stereotaxic frame or surgical platform, and high-quality optics for microsurgery and microinjection.

The PZMV pairs a 45° inclined Greenough stereo head with an extended articulating arm and four-quadrant overhead LED ring-light illumination. The arm reaches across stereotaxic instruments and benchtop platforms, while the ring light delivers cool, glare-free light directly onto the working field. The head rotates 360°, locks in position, and accepts widefield 10x high-eyepoint eyepieces with optional 15x, 16x and 20x replacements for higher magnification. The trinocular version adds a 50/50 photo port with an integrated 0.5x C-mount adapter, so a microscopy camera can be added at any time for documentation or live video to a monitor.

Key Features

  • Available in binocular or trinocular configurations: binocular for routine surgical viewing, trinocular when documentation or live video out is required.
  • Wide magnification range: 7x–45x total magnification (trinocular, 6.4:1 zoom) or 8x–40x (binocular, 5:1 zoom), extendable with auxiliary lenses up to 128x.
  • Long working distance: 100–110 mm of clearance to the specimen — ample room for stereotaxic frames, micromanipulators, and injection systems.
  • Articulated arm reach: extended articulating arm with table-clamp or table-mount base, positioning the head precisely over stereotaxic instruments without crowding the field.
  • Four-quadrant LED ring-light illumination: 72-LED (binocular) or 120-LED polarizing (trinocular) cool-light ring with quadrant zone control and intensity dial — minimizes glare on wet tissue and reflective surfaces.
  • Camera-ready trinocular port: 50/50 photo port with integrated 0.5x C-mount on the trinocular model, accepting standard microscopy cameras for live monitoring or video capture.
  • Full reticle and eyepiece compatibility: 24–26 mm reticle slot, swappable 15x / 16x / 20x eyepieces, and four auxiliary lens options (0.5x, 0.75x, 1.5x, 2.0x) for magnification flexibility.

Configurations

The PZMV is supplied as a complete system in two main configurations. Choose the binocular system for everyday surgical viewing, or the trinocular system when video documentation or a live monitor feed is needed.

  • PRO-PZMV-B-ART — Binocular: 45° binocular head, 8x–40x magnification, 0.8x–4x zoom (5:1), 110 mm working distance, 72-LED four-quadrant ring light, articulating arm with table-clamp or table-mount base.
  • PRO-PZMV-T-ART — Trinocular: 45° trinocular head with 50/50 photo port and integrated 0.5x C-mount, 7x–45x magnification, 0.7x–4.5x zoom (6.4:1), 100 mm working distance, 120-LED polarizing four-quadrant ring light, articulating arm clamp stand.
  • PZMV-B-H — Head only: binocular head supplied as a stand-alone optical unit for integration with existing stands or motorized bases.

Accessories

A full range of accessories is available to tailor the PZMV to specific workflows — adapt eyepieces for higher magnification, attach a camera, swap auxiliary lenses for extended working distance or higher zoom, or add reticles for in-image measurement.

  • C-Mount Camera Adapters (PZMV C-mounts, 505847 series): 0.35x adapter for 1/3" sensor microscopy cameras and 0.5x adapter for 1/2" sensor cameras — allow direct connection of digital cameras to the trinocular photo port.
  • Eyepieces: standard 10x / 20–23 mm widefield high-eyepoint eyepieces are included; optional 15x, 16x / 14 mm and 20x eyepieces are available for higher magnification.
  • Auxiliary objective lenses: 0.5x (185 mm WD), 0.75x (128 mm WD), 1.5x (56 mm WD) and 2.0x (43 mm WD) — change total magnification and working distance to suit the application, up to 128x with the 2.0x lens and 16x eyepieces.
  • Eyepiece reticles: 24–26 mm reticle slot accepts standard measuring reticles for stage-micrometer-calibrated in-image measurement.
  • Stage micrometers: required when adding a camera and using software for digital measurement — used to calibrate pixel-to-distance relationships at each zoom setting.
  • Stand options: articulating arm with table-mount base (drilled into the bench, 110 × 110 mm footprint) or table-clamp base (104 × 77 × 136 mm clamp). Compatible with WPI's PZM-series post stands and motorized stereo microscope bases.
  • LED ring-light illuminators: the four-quadrant LED ring light is included with each PRO system; replacement and upgrade ring lights with polarizing analyzers are available for glare-free imaging on wet or reflective tissue.
