Pressure control for automated pipette cleaning
The uMc-CLN pressure controllers are designed to make automatic cleaning of patch pipettes fast and easy. The use of both Alconox and Tergazyme have been proven in multiple independent peer-reviewed studies to provide the most reliable and safest cleaning of patch pipettes for reuse available today. Using this approach, up to 100 cells can be patched without changing the pipette, saving, internal solution, pipettes and above all, time. See the “Application details” tab above for more information.

What is the Sensapex uMc-CLN Pipette Cleaning System?
The Sensapex uMc-CLN is a precision automated pressure controller designed specifically to clean glass patch pipettes between recordings, enabling the same pipette to be reused for up to 100 sequential cell patches without manual replacement. By automating the pipette cleaning cycle — using proven Alconox or Tergazyme cleaning protocols validated in multiple peer-reviewed studies — the uMc-CLN dramatically increases throughput in electrophysiology workflows and reduces per-experiment consumable costs.
The system integrates seamlessly with Sensapex micromanipulators and the uMp-TSC touch screen controller, providing a 1-click cleaning interface that fits naturally into established patch clamp workflows. Available in 2-, 4-, and 8-channel desktop configurations, the uMc-CLN supports both solo patch and multi-electrode recording setups.
Key Features
- Automated pipette reuse: Clean the same glass patch pipette up to 100 times between recordings, eliminating the need to manually pull and replace pipettes between cells.
- Validated cleaning protocols: The uMc-CLN supports Alconox and Tergazyme cleaning agents, both independently validated in peer-reviewed studies as the safest and most reliable method for patch pipette reuse.
- Closed-loop pressure control: ±70 kPa pressure range with 7 Pa resolution and ±140 Pa accuracy ensures precise and reproducible cleaning cycles.
- Multi-channel configurations: Available in 2-, 4-, and 8-channel desktop versions to support parallel patch clamp setups and high-throughput recording.
- 1-click cleaning with uMp-TSC: Integrates with the Sensapex touch screen controller (uMp-TSC2) for intuitive, one-touch automated cleaning at the microscope station.
- Seamless integration: Works within the full Sensapex uMp/uMc ecosystem, compatible with Sensapex micromanipulators for automated or semi-automated patch clamp workflows.
- Licensed technology: Manufactured under licenses from GTRC and MIT, USA.
