PUL-1000 Microelectrode Puller
The WPI PUL-1000 is a microprocessor-controlled, four-stage horizontal puller for fabricating precision glass micropipettes and microelectrodes for patch clamp, intracellular recording, microinjection, and microperfusion. With four independently programmable pulling stages, 95-program memory, and a tempered glass cover for humidity control, it delivers reproducible pipette geometries from under 0.1 µm to over 10 µm tip diameter — the dependable workhorse for any glass-pulling lab.

What is the PUL-1000 Microelectrode Puller?
The WPI PUL-1000 is a microprocessor-controlled, four-stage horizontal puller for fabricating glass micropipettes and microelectrodes with exceptional precision and reproducibility. Whether you need electrodes for intracellular recording, pipettes for patch clamp studies, or fine capillaries for microinjection and microperfusion, the PUL-1000 delivers consistent results across a wide range of tip geometries — from sub-0.1 µm to over 10 µm tip diameter.
The four programmable stages give you independent control of heating, force, movement, and cooling time, enabling graduated pulling cycles ideally suited to demanding applications. Up to 95 programs can be stored and recalled instantly, and a tempered glass cover shields the pulling chamber from humidity for unmatched run-to-run consistency.
Key Features
- Four-stage programmable pulling: Set heat, force, movement, and cooling independently for each stage to produce any geometry — long graduated tapers, short tapers, or sharp bee-stinger tips.
- 95-program memory: Store up to 95 user-defined programs plus 15 factory-installed programs; recall any program instantly via the LCD interface.
- Wide tip diameter range: Pull micropipettes from under 0.1 µm to over 10 µm — covering sharp microelectrodes, patch clamp pipettes, injection capillaries, and more.
- Tempered glass cover: The sealed pulling chamber minimises humidity and temperature effects, the leading cause of irreproducibility in horizontal pullers.
- Universal switchable power supply: Operates at 90–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz worldwide. Heating voltage is regulated to ±0.1% accuracy regardless of line voltage fluctuations.
- Compact workhorse design: At 7 kg and 34 × 24 × 12 cm, the PUL-1000 fits any bench and is built for years of daily use.

Who Uses the PUL-1000?
Pulling glass micropipettes is both a science and an art. The PUL-1000 is trusted by researchers across neuroscience, cell biology, and developmental biology who need reliable, reproducible pipettes day after day.
- Electrophysiologists pulling sharp microelectrodes for intracellular recording in brain slices or in vivo preparations.
- Patch clamp researchers fabricating borosilicate pipettes with consistent tip resistances of 3–10 MΩ for whole-cell and single-channel recording.
- Microinjection labs preparing injection capillaries for stereotaxic viral vector (AAV) delivery, zebrafish embryo injection, and single-cell injection.
- Developmental biologists making micropipettes for micromanipulation of oocytes, early embryos, and organotypic cultures.
Choosing a Filament
The PUL-1000 uses a platinum/iridium box filament. The filament box should be approximately 1.0–1.5 mm larger than the capillary OD. The default 2.5 mm square box filament (Cat. 13834) suits most applications; a 3 mm option (Cat. 14074) is available for larger glass. Three sets of colour-coded clamp pads are included: translucent (1.0–1.2 mm OD), black (1.5 mm OD), and red (2.0 mm OD).
