Nanoliter 2020 Injector
WPI's updated, touchscreen-controlled nanoliter microinjector. Repeatable positive-displacement injections down to 0.6 nL using glass micropipettes, driven from the SMARTouch™ MICRO2T controller that also runs the UMP3 pump. One injector spans 1.1–1.5 mm OD glass via a simple front-gasket swap — the workhorse for stereotaxic viral delivery, Xenopus oocyte, zebrafish embryo, and Drosophila / insect injection.

What is the Nanoliter 2020 Injector?
The WPI Nanoliter 2020 is the updated, touchscreen-controlled generation of WPI's gold-standard Nanoliter 2010 injector — a positive-displacement microinjector capable of repeatable injections down to 0.6 nL using glass micropipettes. It connects directly to WPI's MICRO2T SMARTouch™ controller (the same controller that drives the UMP3 syringe pump), letting a single bench-top controller run injectors and pumps either independently or in sync.
The system relies on a precision micrometer step-motor and an oil-back-filled / sample-front-filled glass pipette, so the costly or scarce sample never touches the moving piston. Front-gasket swaps (green / black / red) let the same injector accept 1.1–1.15 mm, 1.3–1.35 mm, or 1.5 mm OD fire-polished glass — a single instrument across most rodent, zebrafish, Xenopus, Drosophila and insect injection workflows.
Key Features
- Down to 0.6 nL repeatable injections. Positive-displacement architecture with in-depth plunger-displacement validation — nanoliter-to-microliter range with reproducible volumes and injection rates.
- SMARTouch™ controller, shared with the UMP3 pump. One MICRO2T touchscreen controller can drive up to two devices (injector + injector, or injector + UMP3 pump) independently or synchronously.
- Multi-glass compatibility, no head swap. Green / black / red front gaskets cover 1.1–1.5 mm OD fire-polished glass micropipettes without changing the injector head.
- Sample-saving front-fill. Mineral oil back-fills the pipette; the sample is loaded at the tip, so even the smallest, most expensive samples are used in full — nothing is lost into the piston bore.
- LED status indicator. Bright red in RUN mode, dim red when paired with the controller — immediate visual confirmation that the injector is connected and active.
- Mounts directly on stereotaxic frames and micromanipulators for in-vivo viral vector / drug delivery, plus benchtop holders for zebrafish and embryo workflows.
- Optional foot-switch trigger for hands-free injection during stereotaxic surgery.
- Compatible with WPI MICRO2T and MICRO4 controllers — no adapter required (unlike the legacy Nanoliter 2010).
Applications
- Stereotaxic viral vector (AAV) and drug delivery in mice and rats
- Xenopus oocyte injection
- Zebrafish embryo microinjection
- Drosophila and other insect embryo / larval injection
- Intracellular and cellular injection in cultured systems
