Mouse Adaptors

RWD Mouse Adaptors are species-specific head fixation accessories for all RWD stereotaxic frames, covering adult mice, neonatal mice, and neonatal rats. The four-model range includes a standard incisor-palate adaptor, a mouse/neonatal-rat adaptor with resin ear bars, an integrated gas anesthesia model, and a dedicated neonatal adaptor with an extended 150 × 100 mm base plate.

Mouse Adaptors

What are RWD Mouse Adaptors?

RWD Mouse Adaptors are species-specific head fixation accessories that mount to any RWD standard stereotaxic frame to accommodate mice of all sizes — from neonatal pups to adult mice requiring gas anesthesia delivery. Each adaptor provides a different combination of incisor, nose clip, and ear bar fixation points, with adjustable vertical and horizontal ranges to precisely position the skull for any stereotaxic procedure. All adaptors maintain 100 μm vertical resolution for reproducible leveling across experimental sessions.

The gas anesthesia models (68057 and 68030) integrate an anesthetic mask directly into the adaptor, allowing isoflurane delivery throughout surgery without a separate mask setup. The neonatal mouse adaptor (68014) provides an extended base plate and dedicated cheekbone locker for pups too small for conventional ear bar fixation.

Key Features

  • 68030 Mouse/Neonatal Rat Adaptor: Resin ear bars with specially treated tips for non-damaging fixation. Graduated incisor and ear bar scales with flexible height adjustment. For neonatal rats, a cheekbone locker replaces ear bars for noninvasive fixation.
  • 68055 Mouse Adaptor: Head fixation via palate and incisor; vertical adjustment +10 mm to −20 mm (100 μm resolution); horizontal adjustment 43.5 mm; horizontal rotation 35°. Ear bars sold separately.
  • 68057 Mouse Gas Anesthesia Head Holder: Integrates gas anesthesia delivery with multi-axis positioning: vertical range 30 mm (+10/−20 mm), vertical and horizontal rotation each 70° (±35°, 5° steps), horizontal adjustment 43.5 mm. Inlet/outlet diameter 2 mm.
  • 68014 Neonatal Mouse Adaptor: Designed for neonatal mice with extended 150 × 100 mm base plate for extra operating space. Adjustable incisor, nose clip, and ear bars with easy positioning on RWD stereotaxic frames.

Peer-reviewed research using RWD Mouse Adaptors

RWD Mouse Adaptors are widely cited in stereotaxic neuroscience studies using adult and neonatal mice, including viral vector delivery, fiber optic implantation, and electrode placement studies. Anesthesia-integrated models appear in studies where prolonged isoflurane delivery is required during multi-step surgical protocols.
