MFS Microfluidic Flow Sensor

Thermal-technology flow rate sensor covering 7 nL/min to 40 mL/min across 6 models. Non-invasive, bidirectional, and fully compatible with Elveflow pressure controllers and the OB1 flow controller.

MFS Microfluidic Flow Sensor

Microfluidic Flow Sensor (MFS) — Thermal Technology

The Elveflow MFS Microfluidic Flow Rate Sensor uses thermal technology to measure flow rates in micro-size channels. It is available in classic and water-resistant (IP54) versions, with 6 sensors covering a flow range from 7 nL/min to 40 mL/min (water equivalent).

Key Benefits

  • 6 sensors covering 7 nL/min to 40 mL/min
  • 5% accuracy on most of the operating range
  • Compatible with OB1 flow controller, MSR sensor reader, and Advanced Range instruments
  • Non-invasive inline measurement — place anywhere in your setup
  • High chemical compatibility
  • Bidirectional measurement (positive & negative flow)
  • Water-resistant version certified IP54

Flow Rate Ranges (Water Equivalent)

  • MFS1: 7 nL/min range
  • MFS2: 80 nL/min range
  • MFS3: 1 µL/min range
  • MFS4: 7 µL/min range
  • MFS5: 1 mL/min range
  • MFS6: ±40 mL/min range

Software Features

Controlled via the Elveflow Smart Interface (ESI): intuitive flow rate display, customizable feedback loop parameters, multiple predefined flow patterns (ramp, sinus, square, triangle), dispensed volume calculation, and multi-channel flow control. SDK available for C++, Python, MATLAB®, and LabVIEW®.

FAQ

How many MFS sensor models are available and what are the ranges?

There are 6 MFS models (MFS1–MFS6), covering flow rates from 7 nL/min to 40 mL/min for water. Each model is optimized for a specific range, allowing you to choose the best match for your application.

What is the accuracy of the MFS sensors?

Typical accuracy is 5% of the measured value across most of the operating range for water. Accuracy and repeatability specifications are valid for flow rates below full scale for MFS1–MFS5, and below ±20 mL/min for MFS6.

Does the MFS require an OB1 controller?

No. The MFS can also be connected to the MSR Sensor Reader (standalone measurement) or to the Advanced Range Sensor Hub. The OB1 controller is needed if you want closed-loop flow rate control.

Is the MFS bidirectional?

Yes, the MFS supports bidirectional flow rate measurement, detecting both positive and negative flow directions.

What is the IP54-rated water resistant version?

The water resistant MFS variant is IP54 certified, meaning it is dust protected and protected against water splashing from any direction — suitable for more demanding lab environments.

Can I get an IPA calibration?

IPA (isopropanol) calibration is available for select MFS models. Please contact Elveflow or NBT to confirm availability for your specific model.
