Elveflow Cobalt Autonomous Microfluidic Pump

The Cobalt is a standalone and autonomous piezoelectric microfluidic pump with integrated pressure (and vacuum) source. Available in single-pressure (0 to 2000 mbar) and dual pressure/vacuum (-700 to 1000 mbar) versions, with embedded user interface and 0.1 mbar stability for portable benchtop microfluidic control without external gas supply.

Elveflow Cobalt Autonomous Microfluidic Pump

What is the Cobalt Autonomous Microfluidic Pump?

The Cobalt is Elveflow's standalone, all-in-one microfluidic pump engineered on the same piezoelectric technology as the OB1 MK4 best-seller. Unlike syringe or peristaltic pumps, it delivers smooth, pulseless flow without any mechanical piece producing pressure — and unlike most OB1-class controllers, it embeds its own pressure (and optionally vacuum) source so no external gas supply or laboratory compressor is required.

Two versions are available: a single-pressure unit (0 to 2000 mbar) and a dual pressure & vacuum unit (-700 to 1000 mbar). Both can run flow control when paired with an Elveflow MFS flow sensor, with stability of 0.1 mbar and response times down to 10 ms via the embedded firmware.

Key Features

  • Autonomous & Standalone: Integrated pressure (and vacuum) source — no external compressor or gas supply needed.
  • Embedded user interface: Set pressure directly through the dial knob and on-device screen, with or without a computer.
  • Piezoelectric pressure regulation: Smooth, pulseless flow generation with 0.1 mbar stability and down to 75 ms settling time.
  • Flow control: When paired with an MFS sensor (MFS2-MFS5), achieves repeatability from 3.5 nl/min and accuracy from 20 nl/min in water.
  • Quiet & compact: Bench-friendly form factor designed to minimise vibration and noise.

Applications

The Cobalt is the ideal benchtop companion for a wide range of microfluidic experiments where flow stability and ease of use matter more than maximum throughput. Common use cases include:

  • Lab-on-chip development — rapid prototyping with no plumbing overhead.
  • Bench testing & characterisation of chips, sensors, filters and microfluidic devices.
  • Mechanobiology — cell confinement and tissue engineering experiments.
  • Cell perfusion — long-term, stable medium delivery to live cultures.

What is the Elveflow Cobalt Autonomous Microfluidic Pump and what is it used for?

The Cobalt is Elveflow's standalone, all-in-one microfluidic pump with integrated pressure (and optionally vacuum) source. Built on the same piezoelectric technology as the OB1 MK4, it delivers smooth, pulseless flow with 0.1 mbar stability and requires no external gas supply, making it ideal for portable benchtop microfluidic experiments.

What research applications is the Elveflow Cobalt suited for?

The Cobalt is suited for lab-on-chip development, cell perfusion, mechanobiology (cell confinement, tissue engineering), and bench testing or characterisation of microfluidic chips, sensors, and filters. Its standalone design makes it especially well-suited for labs without compressed gas infrastructure.

What are the key technical features of the Elveflow Cobalt?

The Cobalt (catalog: COBALT / COBALT-DUAL) offers 0 to 2000 mbar (or -700 to 1000 mbar dual) piezoelectric pressure control with 0.1 mbar stability, response times down to 10 ms, and settling times from 75 ms. It pairs with the Elveflow MFS flow sensor series for closed-loop flow control across the 0–5000 µl/min range.

Is the Elveflow Cobalt available in Israel with local support?

Yes. NBT Ltd distributes Elveflow microfluidic products in Israel. Our team provides local support and application guidance for the Cobalt and the complete Elveflow microfluidic automation ecosystem.

How does the Elveflow Cobalt integrate with Elveflow systems?

The Cobalt is engineered on the same piezoelectric core as the OB1 MK4 and works directly with the Elveflow MFS flow sensor series for closed-loop flow control. It is controlled either by its embedded knob/screen interface or by the dedicated Cobalt Windows software, and integrates into Elveflow ESI-orchestrated workflows alongside MUX valves and other sensors.
