BFS Premium Coriolis Flow Sensor
Bronkhorst Coriolis flow sensor with accuracy down to 0.2%, broad µL/min to mL/min range in a single sensor, and fluid-independent mass flow measurement. The highest-accuracy option in the Elveflow range.

Bronkhorst Coriolis Flow Sensor (BFS) — Premium Accuracy
The Bronkhorst Flow Sensor (BFS) is a premium Coriolis-based microfluidic flow rate sensor, offering unmatched accuracy down to 0.2% of measured value. Its operating range covers µL/min to mL/min in a single sensor, making it the most versatile option for demanding microfluidic applications.
Key Benefits
- Accuracy down to 0.2% of measured value (2% for BF1 standard model)
- Wide range: one sensor covers what typically requires several standard thermal sensors
- Direct mass flow measurement — independent of fluid properties (density, temperature, viscosity, pressure)
- Compatible with liquids and gases — no separate calibration needed when switching fluids
- Bidirectional measurement
- Additional outputs: density and temperature
- Stand-alone operation: plug directly into a computer, no additional hardware required
- Excellent long-term stability and repeatability
- Fast response and low risk of gas bubble inclusion
Available Models
Elveflow offers multiple BFS models varying by operating flow rate range. Each is designed for rigidity — it should be bolted to a stiff mass and isolated from external vibrations for guaranteed accuracy.
Software Features
Controlled via Elveflow Smart Interface (ESI) or directly via C++, Python, MATLAB®, or LabVIEW®. Features include: intuitive display, customizable feedback parameters, multiple flow patterns (ramp, sinus, square, triangle), dispensed volume calculation, and multi-parameter display (temperature, mass flow, density).

FAQ
What makes the BFS different from the MFS thermal sensor?
The BFS uses the Coriolis principle for direct mass flow measurement, making it independent of fluid properties such as viscosity, density, and temperature. This gives it superior accuracy (down to 0.2%) and makes it compatible with liquids and gases without recalibration. The MFS thermal sensor is more affordable and covers a wider absolute range, but requires calibration per fluid type.
Do I need an OB1 controller to use the BFS?
No. The BFS connects directly to your PC via USB. No OB1 or MSR sensor reader is required. The BFS is not compatible with the Advanced Range products.
Is a calibration certificate provided?
Yes. BFS1+, BFS2, and BFS3 models are individually calibrated by Bronkhorst before shipping. A calibration certificate is included with each sensor.
Can the BFS measure gas flow as well as liquid flow?
Yes. The Coriolis measurement principle works for both liquids and gases without requiring a separate calibration.
What additional parameters does the BFS measure?
In addition to mass flow rate, the BFS also provides real-time density and temperature outputs — useful for monitoring fluid composition changes during experiments.
Does the BFS work with the Elveflow ESI software?
Yes. The BFS is fully supported by the Elveflow Smart Interface (ESI), which provides intuitive display, flow pattern programming, volume calculation, and multi-channel control.
