Why a modular bio-acquisition chassis matters

Cardiovascular, electrodermal and bio-potential psychophysiology each demand a different amplifier — different gain, different filter band, different transducer interface. Researchers building a multi-signal workflow have historically had to stack three or four standalone amplifiers, each with its own clock, its own software, and its own sync problem. The BioNex chassis is the alternative: one synchronized acquisition box, eight identical slots, and a library of plug-in amplifier modules that cover the full physiological signal set. The BioNex 8-Slot Chassis accepts any combination of the four standard plug-in amplifier modules below. Modules can be added, swapped, or rearranged across slots without recalibrating the chassis or changing the rest of the rig. All modules synchronize to the chassis clock, hardware-aligning signals across the recording.

BioNex 3-Channel Bio-Potential and GSC Amplifier

Records up to 3 simultaneous channels of bio-potential signals — ECG, EEG or EMG — alongside one channel of galvanic skin conductance (GSC / EDA). The combined Bio-Potential + GSC architecture is the workhorse module for psychophysiology paradigms where heart rate, brain or muscle activity, and sympathetic arousal are recorded together on the same time base.

The dedicated module is what makes the BioNex a cardiovascular psychophysiology platform rather than a generic bio-amp — ICG-derived measures are the gold standard for sympathetic and parasympathetic cardiovascular tone in social, stress and reactivity research.

The module replaces a separate bio-amplifier stack where the only goal is more bio-potential capacity.

BioNex 4-Channel Transducer Amplifier

A 4-channel transducer amplifier that interfaces external biomedical transducers — blood-pressure cuffs, respiration belts, temperature probes, force transducers — with the chassis. The module is interchangeable across any BioNex chassis slot, and its excitation and signal-conditioning circuitry covers the most common bridge and voltage transducer types used in psychophysiology and physiology research.

  • Compatible with respiration belts, BP cuffs, temperature, force.

The 8-Slot Chassis Assembly (MND-50-3711-08) holds up to 8 BioNex modules. Module slots are interchangeable — any BioNex module can be placed in any slot and is auto-detected by the BioLab software.

What software runs the BioNex?

The BioNex pairs with MindWare BioLab Acquisition Software (MND-60-0107-00) for synchronized recording, event marking and real-time waveform display. Recordings export directly into MindWare’s analysis suite — HRV, EDA, IMP and EMG Analysis Software.

Are all signals time-synchronized?

Yes — every module shares the chassis hardware clock, so multi-signal recordings (e.g. ECG + GSC + ICG + respiration) are aligned to the sample. No software-level time alignment is required.

Can modules be added later?

Yes. The chassis accepts up to 8 modules and any module can be added to an existing chassis without re-validation. Specify the modules you need at the time of order; expand the configuration later as research scope grows.
