Low-Profile Anesthesia Masks for SomnoSuite

Tight-fitting, slim-profile nose masks for the Kent SomnoSuite® and SomnoFlo® — engineered for procedures that need unobstructed access to the eyes, ears and top of the head: stereotaxic injection, retinal imaging, dental work and MRI in-bore anesthesia. Four sizes cover animals from neonatal mice (< 100 g) to large rats (> 300 g). Each kit ships with an 18" luer-fit tubing set.

Low-Profile Anesthesia Masks for SomnoSuite

What are the Low-Profile Anesthesia Masks?

Kent Scientific’s Low-Profile Anesthesia Masks are tight-fitting nose masks designed for the SomnoSuite® and SomnoFlo® low-flow vaporizers. Their slim, low-profile geometry is engineered specifically for procedures that require clean access to the eyes, ears and top of the head — stereotaxic injections, intra-cranial electrode implantation, optical-fiber implantation, retinal imaging, dental work and other head-region surgeries where a bulky traditional mask would block the working field.

Four animal sizes are offered (Small for animals under 100 g, Medium for rats up to 100 g, Large for rats up to 300 g, Extra Large for animals over 300 g). Each kit includes the appropriate nose mask and an 18" tubing set with luer fittings sized for Kent’s low-flow vaporizers.

Key Features

  • Low-profile geometry: Keeps the surgical field clear for eye, ear and top-of-head procedures.
  • Tight, leak-resistant fit: Designed to minimize waste anesthetic gas escape during stereotaxic and head-region work.
  • Four sizes: Small (< 100 g), Medium (rat < 100 g), Large (rat < 300 g), Extra Large (> 300 g) covers the full mouse/rat range.
  • MRI compatible: Suitable for in-bore imaging studies under inhalation anesthesia.
  • Luer-fit tubing included: 18" line with luer fittings drops directly onto SomnoSuite® and SomnoFlo® outlets.

Why a low-profile mask matters for head-region surgery

Stereotaxic injection, optical-fiber implantation, retinal imaging and other head-region procedures all share the same constraint: the surgeon needs unobstructed access to a small area on the dorsal head while the animal remains anesthetized through a nose-cone. A bulky anesthesia mask either crowds the working field or forces the surgeon to compromise on mask seal — the latter producing waste gas leakage that increases personnel exposure and risks intra-op recovery.

Kent’s Low-Profile Masks are engineered to solve exactly this. The mask body sits below the dorsal cranial surface, leaving the head clear for the stereotaxic frame ear bars and tooth bar. The tight nose seal minimizes leakage even at the low flow rates the SomnoSuite® and SomnoFlo® deliver — keeping both the surgeon’s working field clean and the procedure-room waste-gas budget low.

Typical Use Cases

  • Stereotaxic surgery (AAV injection, electrode/optical fiber implantation).
  • Retinal imaging and ophthalmology procedures.
  • Dental and oral cavity procedures.
  • Top-of-head EEG/optical recording prep.
  • MRI in-bore anesthesia where a slim mask profile fits the coil geometry.

Peer-reviewed research using Kent Scientific Low-Profile Anesthesia Masks

Low-profile nose masks are commonly cited in stereotaxic, retinal and dental rodent procedures where the surgical field must remain unobstructed. Studies typically describe their use with SomnoSuite® or SomnoFlo® for head-region surgery and MRI workflows.
