ibidi micro-Insert 4 Well FulTrac

Four conical wells 0.4 mm across, 10 µl each, in a 35 mm imaging dish. One 20x field covers a whole well, so a single cell cannot leave the frame during a long imaging run. The FulTrac silicone bottom seals against a smooth dry surface, which is what stops 10 µl wicking away or evaporating.

ibidi micro-Insert 4 Well FulTrac

What is the micro-Insert 4 Well FulTrac?

A silicone insert 12 mm across and 4.3 mm high with four conical wells, each 0.4 mm in diameter and holding 10 µl. It comes pre-inserted in a µ-Dish 35 mm, high with an ibiTreat surface and a #1.5 polymer coverslip bottom.

The well is small enough that a 20x objective covers all of it. A single cell in that well cannot walk out of the field of view over a weekend of imaging, which is the entire reason this product exists.

The FulTrac bottom

FulTrac is the sticky silicone underside. Pressed onto a smooth dry surface it seals, so 10 µl sits in a well without wicking underneath and without the evaporation losses that kill small volume cultures. That seal is also what makes the self insertion version usable on your own coverslip.

Where I would not spend the money

Growth area is 0.0012 cm² per well. This is for one cell, or a handful. Anything that needs a monolayer, a confluence measurement or a decent protein yield belongs in an ordinary µ-Dish or a µ-Slide 8 Well, and both cost less. The plain micro-Insert 4 Well without the FulTrac bottom is also cheaper, and if you only ever use the pre-inserted dish, the sticky bottom buys you very little.

Key Features

  • Four conical wells, 0.4 mm diameter, complete well coverage with a 20x objective
  • 10 µl per well, so single cells and very small cell numbers stay put
  • FulTrac sticky silicone bottom seals on smooth dry surfaces
  • ibiTreat surface on a #1.5 polymer coverslip bottom, 180 µm
  • Adherent cells, suspension cells, spheroids and organoids

What is this actually for?

Watching one cell, or a few, for a long time. The well is 0.4 mm across and a 20x objective covers all of it, so nothing migrates out of the field of view while you are not looking.

What does FulTrac mean?

The sticky silicone underside. Pressed onto a smooth dry surface it seals, which stops 10 µl wicking under the insert and slows evaporation. It is also what lets the self insertion version, 80489, work on your own coverslip.

How many cells fit?

Growth area is 0.0012 cm² per well and the volume is 10 µl. This is single cell and small cell number work. For a monolayer, a confluence measurement or any decent protein yield, use a µ-Dish or a µ-Slide 8 Well.

micro-Insert 4 Well or micro-Insert 4 Well FulTrac?

The plain micro-Insert 4 Well, 80406, is cheaper. If you only ever use it pre-inserted in the supplied µ-Dish, the sticky bottom is not buying you much. Buy the FulTrac when you intend to place inserts on your own surfaces, or when evaporation has already cost you an experiment.

Is it available in Israel with local support?

Yes. NBT is the ibidi distributor in Israel. We hold labware locally, and we will tell you when a cheaper item in the range does the same job.
