What is the Xsens Link?
A full body inertial motion capture suit. 17 sensors click into connectors built into the eSuit, so there are no straps to place and no loose cable to route. The cabling lives inside the suit and goes into the wash with it.
Xsens puts setup at up to 40 percent faster than the previous generation Link. That comes from the integrated cabling and the one click sensors.

Washing the eSuit
The cables stay in the suit. Take out the hub, the sensors and the external battery, secure the end connectors inside the suit, then put the whole thing in the supplied washing bag. Gentle program at 30 degrees, 400 RPM maximum, liquid detergent. No bleach, no softener, no tumble dryer, no iron, no dry cleaning. Drip dry flat.
Xsens qualifies the eSuit and its cables for up to 100 wash cycles on those instructions.
Where the Link is the wrong buy
The eSuit has to fit the subject. Sizes run S to XXL. If the suit goes onto a different person every twenty minutes in a clinic, or has to sit over street clothes, the Awinda is the easier system to live with.
The second limit is inherent to inertial capture. Joint angles and segment orientations come from the sensors. Absolute position in the room is derived, not measured, and it drifts over a long take. If the study depends on where the subject is inside a lab volume, an optical system is the right instrument, and we supply Qualisys for that.

What is the Xsens Link and what does it measure?
A full body inertial motion capture suit. 17 sensors click into connectors built into the eSuit and return joint angles and segment orientations at 240 Hz, with 20 ms latency and 150 m of wireless range over WiFi 6E. There are no cameras and no capture volume to calibrate.
What changed in the next generation Link?
The cabling is now built into the eSuit and the sensors attach with a one click connector instead of being strapped and threaded. Xsens puts setup at up to 40 percent faster than the previous generation. The hub moved to WiFi 6E, takes hot swappable external batteries, and holds up to 50 hours of recording on board.
Can the eSuit be washed, and how many times?
Yes, with the cables still inside. Remove the hub, the sensors and the external battery, secure the end connectors inside the suit and put it in the supplied washing bag. Gentle program at 30 degrees, 400 RPM maximum, liquid detergent, no bleach and no softener. Drip dry flat, do not tumble dry or iron. Xsens qualifies the suit and its cables for up to 100 wash cycles on those instructions.
Which software runs it and what comes out?
Xsens Analyze for research, health and sports. Xsens Animate for animation, film and virtual production. Xsens Humanoid for robot teleoperation and AI training data. Analyze and Animate were previously branded MVN Analyze and MVN Animate. Recordings export as MVNX, FBX and BVH, and the data streams live into MATLAB, Unreal Engine and Unity.
When should I buy the Awinda instead?
When the sensors go onto a different person every twenty minutes, or have to sit over street clothes. The eSuit is sized S to XXL and has to fit the subject. The Awinda straps on over clothing, which is easier across a mixed group. For a fitted subject, or for a study that needs the 150 m range and the 20 ms latency, the Link is the better instrument.
