What is the Xsens Awinda?
Full body inertial motion capture on straps. 17 MTw Awinda trackers go on with adjustable straps, over clothing or under it, and transmit to an Awinda station over the Awinda radio protocol. Nothing has to be sized to the subject, which is why it is the quicker system when a lot of different people pass through in one session.
The kit ships with 18 trackers, the recording and docking station, two charging stations, three shirts and a strap set, a segmometer and a neoprene case.

Software is a separate purchase
The hardware records nothing on its own. Xsens Analyze for research, health and sports, or Xsens Animate for animation and film. Both were previously branded MVN. Budget for the licence alongside the hardware.
Read the update rate before you buy
60 Hz. Xsens describes the Awinda as ideal for low dynamic motions. Gait, reaching, posture, ergonomics assessment, rehabilitation and VTubing all sit comfortably inside that.
Sprint mechanics, jump landing, a bat or a racket at contact: 60 Hz is not enough. If the study rests on peak angular velocity in a fast movement, buy the Link at 240 Hz, or an optical system. Do not buy the Awinda and hope.

How fast a movement can the Awinda capture?
The update rate is 60 Hz. Xsens describes the Awinda as ideal for low dynamic motions. Gait, reaching, posture, ergonomics and rehabilitation work sit well inside that. Sprint mechanics, jump landing and impact events do not. For those the Xsens Link runs at 240 Hz.
Does the software come with the hardware?
No. The hardware records nothing on its own. Xsens Analyze for research, health and sports, or Xsens Animate for animation and film, is a separate purchase. Both were previously branded MVN.
Can I sync it with EMG or force plates?
Yes. The Awinda station carries BNC connectors for third party hardware, including EMG systems and force plates.
When should I buy the Link instead?
When the movement is fast, when the protocol needs 240 Hz or 20 ms latency, or when the capture has to reach beyond 50 m. The Link is a fitted eSuit, so it is slower to get onto a mixed group of subjects and quicker on one.
