Thermal Gradient Ring (TGR) 2.0

The Thermal Gradient Ring (TGR) 2.0 is the state-of-the-art circular thermal preference assay for mice, fully automatic with support from over 36 scientific publications. It clearly discriminates temperature-dependent phenotypes and drug effects across 12 temperature zones.

Thermal Gradient Ring (TGR) 2.0

The Thermal Gradient Ring (TGR) 2.0 is the state-of-the-art thermal preference assay designed with a circular shape. Fully automatic, with up to 36 scientific publications supporting its validity, the TGR clearly discriminates temperature-dependent phenotypes and drug effects. Animals move freely while tracked by camera, enabling automatic analysis of time spent in 12 temperature zones and calculation of each animal’s preferred temperature.

Research Applications

The Thermal Gradient Ring 2.0 is widely used in research on thermal nociception, peripheral neuropathy, and chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). By precisely monitoring the preferred temperature zones chosen by freely-moving mice, it enables phenotyping of genetic pain models, evaluation of pain-modulating compounds, and temperature-sensitivity studies. Compatible with ANY-maze software for automated tracking and analysis.

Peer-reviewed research using the Ugo Basile Thermal Gradient Ring 2.0

The Thermal Gradient Ring 2.0 is used in research on neuropathic pain, TRP channel phenotyping (TRPM8, TRPA1, TRPV3), Parkinson's disease thermal behavior, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Its circular design eliminates corner bias, and integration with ANY-maze enables automated scoring of temperature preference over 60-minute sessions.

What animals is the TGR 2.0 designed for?

The TGR 2.0 is designed for mice, and is now available for both tethered and non-tethered configurations.

How does the TGR 2.0 detect animal position?

Animal position is detected via a USB camera connected to ANY-maze video tracking software, which automatically calculates time spent in each of the 12 temperature zones.

What is the temperature range of the TGR 2.0?

The heating-only version covers 20°C to 65°C; the heating/cooling version covers 4°C to 65°C, with ±1°C precision.

What data does the TGR 2.0 produce?

Data includes time spent per zone, preferred temperature calculations, and trajectory data, collected via ANY-maze and exported in standard formats.

What is the warranty on the TGR 2.0?

The TGR 2.0 comes with a 12-month standard warranty, extendable to 24 months upon product registration.
