ibidi µ-Slide 15 Well 3D
A 15-well chambered slide with a unique "well-in-a-well" geometry for tube formation (angiogenesis), sprouting, and 3D cell culture assays. Only 10 µL of gel per well — with no meniscus — keeps cells in a single optical plane for reproducible, high-quality microscopy.

What is the µ-Slide 15 Well 3D?
The µ-Slide 15 Well 3D (formerly µ-Slide Angiogenesis) is a chambered coverslip with 15 wells, designed for tube formation (angiogenesis) assays, sprouting assays, immunofluorescence, and 3D cell culture in gel matrices. Its specialized "well-in-a-well" geometry uses only 10 µL of gel per well — about 10% of what standard multiwell plates require — making it both cost-effective and reproducible.
Because the gel forms a flat, meniscus-free surface, all cells sit in a single optical plane, enabling brilliant cell visualization across the entire well. The slide is compatible with a wide range of gels including Matrigel®, collagen, and agarose, and is optimized for phase contrast, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy.
Key Features
- Well-in-a-well geometry – 10 µL inner gel well + 50 µL upper medium reservoir
- No gel meniscus – cells grow in a uniform optical plane for reproducible imaging
- Cost-effective – only 10 µL of gel required per well
- Versatile gel compatibility – works with Matrigel®, collagen, agarose, fibrin, and other hydrogels
- High optical quality – #1.5 polymer coverslip bottom for phase contrast, fluorescence, and confocal microscopy (Glass Bottom variant available)
- Ready to use – sterile, individually wrapped, no precoating needed
Typical Applications
Tube formation (angiogenesis) assays with endothelial cells, sprouting assays from spheroids or aortic ring explants, 3D cell culture in gel matrices, co-culture and invasion experiments, sandwich cultures, and immunofluorescence staining of cells embedded in or on top of gels.

What is the ibidi µ-Slide 15 Well 3D used for?
A 15-well chambered slide for tube formation (angiogenesis) assays, sprouting assays, 3D cell culture in gels (e.g. Matrigel®, collagen, agarose), and immunofluorescence staining — all optimized for high-resolution microscopy.
What is the well-in-a-well design and why does it matter?
Each well has a small inner well (10 µL) for the gel and a larger upper reservoir (50 µL) for medium. This geometry produces a flat, meniscus-free gel surface so all cells sit in one optical plane — giving reproducible imaging and uniform readouts.
How much gel do I need per well?
Only 10 µL of gel per well, which is roughly 10% of what regular multiwell plates require. This significantly reduces costs for expensive matrices like Matrigel®.
What microscopy techniques is it compatible with?
The standard polymer-bottom version (#1.5) supports brightfield, phase contrast, widefield fluorescence, and confocal microscopy. For super-resolution or TIRF, choose the µ-Slide 15 Well 3D Glass Bottom variant with a #1.5H glass coverslip.
Is it sterile and ready to use?
Yes — the slide is sterilized and ready for cell culture out of the box. Note: the gel matrix is not included.
