Incapacitance Tester Librae

The Incapacitance Tester Librae measures weight distribution between injured and unaffected hind paws in mice and rats. Its automated, touch-screen-controlled operation reduces bias for objective spontaneous pain assessment in osteoarthritis, cancer pain, and nerve injury models.

Incapacitance Tester Librae

The Incapacitance Tester Librae measures the weight distribution difference between an injured and unaffected hind paw of a mouse or rat. Used for the assessment of spontaneous pain in osteoarthritis, bone cancer, nerve injury, and post-operative pain studies, its automated operation reduces operator bias, optimizes repeatability, and saves time compared to manual methods.

Research Applications

The Incapacitance Tester is the instrument of choice for studying spontaneous pain in models of osteoarthritis, bone cancer pain, nerve injury, and post-operative pain. By measuring weight-bearing asymmetry between injured and unaffected limbs, it provides an objective, non-invasive assessment of ongoing pain without requiring aversive stimulation, ideal for unbiased drug efficacy studies.

Peer-reviewed research using the Ugo Basile Incapacitance Tester Librae

The Incapacitance Tester Librae measures hind-paw weight distribution asymmetry as an index of spontaneous pain in osteoarthritis, neuropathic pain, post-surgical, and inflammatory models. It is widely used in drug efficacy screening for analgesic and anti-arthritic compounds in mouse and rat models.

What species versions are available?

The Librae is available in three versions: 47882 (Rats), 47883 (Mice), and 47885 (Combo for both species).

What is the measurement range?

The instrument measures animal weight per paw from 20 g to 2,200 g with 0.05% to 0.1% precision.

How is calibration performed?

Calibration is fully automatic, performed directly via the 4.3-inch resistive touch-screen.

What data format is exported?

Data is exported in .csv format via USB directly from the touch-screen interface.

What is the warranty?
